Parboiled rice (ukhua chaul, siddha chowl, converted rice) is milled rice that has undergone partial cooking while still in the husk. Storage
Store parboiled rice in an airtight container (glass jar, metal tin, or food-grade plastic) in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. In humid climates (monsoon or coastal regions), keep the container in a cupboard or pantry with good air circulation. Avoid storing near the stove or damp walls. If weevils or insects appear, spread the rice on a clean cloth in sunlight for a few hours, then transfer to a fresh, sealed container. In very hot or humid conditions, refrigerate in an airtight container to extend shelf life.
Shelf Life
